FOOD CHAIN OBSERVATIONS: We watched a dozen or so of the creatures below as they devoured our plants (the swallowtail larvae ate dill, fennel & parsley), but a pair of house wrens ate the catterpillars before they could spin their cocoons. We grew the dill & parsley inside an enclosure to keep rabbits from eating the plants, but the wrens slipped handily through the poultry netting (aka chicken wire) to get to the caterpillars. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * |
