This photo was taken at Belks' Landing on the Ogeechee River, about 2 miles from the house. The home site itself is a sand ridge about 70 feet above the river, so there is no flooding problem. |

Sand Ridge Native Plants: Most folks think that nothing grows on a sand ridge. Are they ever mistaken! This is "rattlesnake master," one of hundreds of native plants that grow here. Its name came from Native Americans who used it to treat snakebite. During the decade that we've owned the property, we've used almost no pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers; and we've been rewarded with a treasure-trove of wonderful native plants that might have been discouraged by agressively trying to remove "weeds." |
